How do I import System and Library XML files for 6.8.4 (or other legacy versions) to the Modernized version of BrDR?

The short answer is that this is NOT supported.

Importing system data files between versions was previously not supported (prior to version 7.1). In the legacy system (prior to 7.0), importing system/library files from previous versions was not restricted so it would appear like it worked. However, when the structure of the system data was changed, things would sometimes get excluded if an older version file was imported into a newer version of the software. In some cases, it would cause a system crash. In the worst case it would corrupt data without the user knowing.

In the modernized system the file format of the library/system files were changed to be more “well formed”, so the file format is no longer the same. The file extension was also changed because some users would get confused with the XML extension and get these files mixed up with bridge import files.

Because of this, importing Library and System data from the legacy (6.8.4 and before) to the modernized (7.0 and later) is not supported. There is no way to import those files. There is a workaround. Your older database can be migrated which will migrate your system and library data as well and then the system/library data can be exported in the correct format and used for distribution.

In short, the quick answer is to backup your 6.8.4 database, migrate it to the modernized database, then connect to it via the modernized software and to access the migrated system/library data.

The other option is to get a current modernized version of the state you are working for.

Moving forward starting with 7.0, system and library files will be able to be exported and imported into a later version.
